Submission Guidelines: How To Get Published

Submission Categories

Nossob Press will consider manuscript submissions for assessment and review in five (5) categories, namely:

1. General fiction

2. Literary fiction

3. Popular non-fiction

4. Photo and picture books

5. Children's books 

Category Particulars

1. General Fiction
Under general fiction, manuscripts in the following categories will be considered for publishing: 
  • Adventure fiction (set in Namibia)
  • Crime fiction (set in Namibia)
  • Historical romance (set in Namibia)
  • Horror (set in Namibia)
  • Magical realism (set in Namibia)
  • Mystery fiction (set in Namibia)
  • Romance fiction (set in Namibia)
  • Women's fiction (set in Namibia)
  • Young adult fiction (set in Namibia)
Standard word count:         75,000 - 85,000 words (subdivided into chapters)
Submission format:            Microsoft Word document (A4, portrait)
Font:                                   Times New Roman
Font size:                           12 pt

2. Literary Fiction

Literary works are not defined by nor limited to specific categories or genres, but are considered works of artistic merit that use the written word in novel format as a vehicle to comment on, illustrate, and study the human condition.
Standard word count:         80,000 - 90,000 words (subdivided into chapters)
Submission format:            Microsoft Word document (A4, portrait)

3. Popular Non-fiction
Popular non-fiction are clear, direct, and simple factual works that discuss and present subjects objectively, in good faith, with the express purpose to inform.  
  • Biography and memoir 
  • Business
  • Economics
  • Health and wellness
  • History
  • Journalism
  • Philosophy
  • Politics
  • Science
  • Self-help

Standard word count:         80,000 - 100,000 words (subdivided into sections)
Submission format:            Microsoft Word document (A4, portrait)

4. Photo and Picture Books

Information that is educational and well-researched, but requires detailed illustrations, or pictures (e.g. maps), or full-colour photographs to clarify and complement content, often with more than one (1) contributor as well, can be presented in book format using specialised, industry-related language, such as:  

  • Climate (Namibia and southern Africa)
  • Computing
  • Engineering (Namibia)
  • Geography (Namibia and southern Africa)
  • Marine biology and ecology (Namibia, Atlantic Ocean)
  • Natural environment (fauna and flora, Namibia and southern Africa)
Minimum word count:         None
Submission format:            Microsoft Word document (portrait or landscape)

5. Children's Books

Please, read our blogpost regarding the appropriate books for children of various ages, and clearly indicate at submission for review, which format would best present your children's book.

Submission Guidelines
1. Do not submit your entire manuscript. You are required to submit the first three (3) chapters for review, only. 
2. Your manuscript submission must be accompanied by an author biography on one (1) page, and a summary of your manuscript on a separate page.
3. Your manuscript must be formatted and typed in Microsoft Word. Unformatted manuscripts and handwritten documents will not be reviewed.  
4. Please, submit your manuscript and supporting documents for review as attachments via e-mail. Do not submit your manuscript in the body of an e-mail. 
5. The manuscript assessment and screening process can take one (1) or even up to two (2) months. 

Automatic Rejections

The following categories and manuscripts will not be considered for review and / or publishing by Nossob Press:

1. Poetry

2. Short stories, and / or short story collections (anthologies)

3. Religion, and / or religious fiction

4. Science fiction

5. Fantasy fiction

6. Manuscripts with word counts below the required amount for a particular category or genre.

Common or Standard Rejection Letter

If a manuscript is not accepted, or if a manuscript is not ready to be published by Nossob Press, a common or standard rejection letter is sent to authors. Should you require additional information, or have questions, please feel free to contact Anya at nossobpress@gmail.com.
